Herb and Margie Vogel invite you and your family to visit their hobby farm, located in Wisconsin's beautiful northwoods, just west of the town of Elcho
The Vogel's lived in the Chicago suburb of Lombard, until moving in 1985 to property owned by Herb's parents. Surrounded by the rush of city life but motivated by the aesthetics and authenticity offered by the vigor of outdoor living the Vogel's began to set up a farm.
Though raising and caring for all manner of pets while in Lombard, the Vogel's dream spurred them to establish their hobby farm and raise a variety of animals.
Their "Farm on the Hill" includes cows, goats, llamas, chickens, ducks, geese, dogs, cats, and much more. Among its other features are an authentic log cabin, a barn, Herb's tractor and a milking parlor.
The Vogel's enjoy sharing their knowledge of different breeds of animals, secrets of their care and the intrigue of animals personalities.
"Our mission is to familiarize city folk with the farm experience, and the excitement of meeting its challenges and reaping its fruits," the Vogel's explain.
The Hobby Farm
As we move more and more toward timesaving conveniences and daily regulation of life (for our own good, in many instances), we drift further away from core values of self-reliance and freedom. Tradition can be sacrificed to progress, the natural to the synthetic and substance to appearance. Though that movement serves much good it can erode our pure enjoyment of the richness of life.
A hobby farm can, in perhaps a small way, help return us, if even for only a short while, to a time and experience filled by the wealth and gentle power of nature, animals and the outdoors. To a place of vibrancy where we are fully alive and in some way, return us to the only place where we are most fully satisfied. Come join us and share in the treasure! |
